Michael A Silva
MBBS, MS, MD, FCS (SL), FFSTEd, FRCS (Gen Surg), FRCS Ed
Michael Silva is a highly experienced specialist surgeon with an interest in gallbladder surgery along with surgery for bile duct, liver and pancreatic disease including pancreatitis. His practice covers all aspects of benign and malignant disease in this area
Mr Silva has been a leading Teaching Hospital General and HPB Surgical Consultant since 2009. Currently Mr Silva is Clinical Lead at the Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and previously was chair of the Liver Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) for the Thames Valley Network (2012-2021).
Mr Silva was the Training Programme Director for Higher Surgical Trainees (General Surgery) Oxford Deanery – Health Education England – Thames Valley (2018-2023)
Mr Silva is currently Director of Foundation Trainees Surgical Societies UK and was a Council Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (2022-2023) and also Director of the Surgical Advisory Network in the UK for the College (2018-2022). He also was Regional Surgical Advisor for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh for Oxford from 2013-2017. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is also a Clinical Lecturer at Worcester College, Oxford University.
Mr Silva was a specialist advisor to NICE (National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence), interventional procedures programme (2018-2021). He also served on the Editorial Board of the British Journal of Surgery (Open) (2015-2021) and Current Surgery Reports. He is a reviewer for many leading scientific journals and has in excess of 90 publications in international peer reviewed journals and has written many book chapters on his speciality interests.
